She’s coming back home. Returning. Returning. Returning is so much more than exploring the new.

Returning now is the adventure. Returning to face, engage and participate. MORE.

What is it to become more of who you are rather than change who you are?

Yeah. Returning has feedback.

Returning offers more information.

She’s coming back into her body.

Back into her skin.

Back into her rhythm.

Back into her pace.

She’s coming back to excitement. Not fear.

I can discern the difference now between excitement and fear.

Excitement. Looking forward.

Looking up, instead of looking down and avoiding.

Yeah. She’s coming back home. Where she belongs. She belongs here.

I gently pat the pillow next to me and say “Please come sit next to me. I saved this spot for you.”

She looks at me waiting for our eyes to meet, waiting to see if my offer is genuine.

She walks toward me.

I stand and embrace her in a full body hug. Our heartbeats squished between us.

We hold each other just a little bit longer until it feels awkward.

I gently release my hold of her. We hold each other at arms length to gaze into each other’s eyes.

She hasn’t changed that much. Her eyes glow. Her smile reaches her eyes.

Even in our stillness, I feel our presence dancing to a similar heartbeat.

She sits next to me. I reach my hand and rest it on her knee. I want to feel her warmth. Almost like I’m afraid she’s a ghost. I’ve waited a long time for her return.

Do I dare tell her how much I’ve missed her laugh, her effervescence, her particular crackling energy?

I have a million questions bubbling up.

Like-

What’s it been like being away?
What drew you back home?
Are you here to stay?

At the moment, I let silence be the driver.

I want her to stay. I don’t want to scare her with questions.

Shedding Skin Writing Practice

scratches away dead skin, dead weight, dead blockage. Just like how a snake has to rub against something to shed it’s skin, even the coverings of it’s eyes or it will suffocate. We humans need to shed old beliefs to find room to breathe. Friction is good. Smooth, polish, gleam comes AFTER we face, engage and participate in being human.

Shedding Skin Writing Practice

is about discovery and exploration. Not knowing what you are going to write, letting the prompt lead, making a mess, getting lost, roaming outside the box and going out on a limb.
